Thursday begins a new adventure

Tuesday, March 27, 2007

On Thursday, I do something I have not done in a long time. I re-enter the secular work-force.

I am not resigning from beign Pastor or anything like that, but, with the expense of the new church building, our church was in need of making some difficult choices if we wanted to balance our books this year.

So, in our January meeting, I took a 20% pay decrease to help us get things back on track. So far, it has worked out pretty well from the standpoint of the church, but for the last few weeks, I have been trying to find a part-time job that I could work around my church responsibilities and around my wife's job. (Missy is a labor and delivery nurse at PRMC.)

Last week I was hired to work overnight stocking at Wal-Mart. I am pretty sure that fellow blogger and very poor NCAA Tournament participant Scott Bothwell also works overnight at Wal-Mart if I remember correctly.

Anyway, on Thursday I have my orientation. I think I actually start working some time next week. The job is a temporary assignment (the store is hiring for a 90--day remodeling project) and I am not sure what our situation will be when the temporary assignment is completed. (They indicated that they will likely hire some of the temporary hires for more permanent positions after the remodeling, but I don't know if I will be chosen for this or if I will need it still at that time.)

I expect I will be trying to streamline some processes in my life over the next few weeks, but I also figure that there are 416 employees at the Wal-Mart that I have not yet met, so "a great door and effectual is opened unto me."

I do not know what the policies are regarding blogging and the job, but orientation is on Thursday and I will probably find out then. If you think about it in the next few days, pray for me and my family as we make this adjustment.

Just my thoughts,

Frank

Hey Frank, I appreciate your willingness to be committed to the work of God, whatever it takes. May the Lord use this job, however long it may last, as an opportunity to further the kingdom.

I worked full time in secular work for many years. I know the strains it puts on the ministry. Do you have men in the church who can pick up some of the tasks for you?

In any case, there are benefits to being in the 'real' world - you will be able to make contacts you would never have made otherwise.

I'll try to remember to pray for you regularly.

Will pray too, Frank. I'm having to get some applications out there myself.

Your memory is doing quite well (much better than my brackets ever do! :-) ) Yes, I work overnights at the Cody Wal-Mart, stocking groceries.

I've not been on a remodel, though our store is slated for one sometime down the road.

Anyway, will be praying for you and your church during this time.

Don & Greg,

Thank you for your words of encouragement and your prayers.

While it is not my preference, I know that God means this for good and as I have been thinking of some of the ways that this might be able to use this, I am excited at the opportunities that are before me.

I knew when we bought the building that something like this was possible - perhaps even likely, but I felt that in our situation getting out of our previous location was a step that our church needed to take.

We did not know anybody in this area before moving here, so this should at least give us some contacts that we might not have had otherwise.

It has already been good for me in forcing me to think through some time priorities and even some witnessing tools.

As far as having men to pick up some of the tasks, we do have a few good men, but most of them are already pretty busy. I do have a man in mind that I may ask to pick up my Sunday School class if things get too heavy to be able to teach it effectively.

Greg, I will be praying for you as you begin down this path as well. Part of my biggest concerns right now is being careful to guard some family time. I imagine this is one of your concerns as well - especially with a young baby.

Thanks again for your prayers and encouragement.

In Christ,

Pastor Frank Sansone

(P.S. I tried to write something similar three times last night, but for some reason my desktop usually messes up when I post comments on my blog so I have to get my notebook going at home to add any comments.)
