R.C. Sproul - Creationist?

Thursday, May 22, 2008

I hope to post something of my own tonight, but I saw this article and thought it was newsworthy.

R.C. Sproul has changed his mind regarding origins and has become a literal six-day creationist.

Story here.

Just someone else's thoughts,

What took him so long?!

I agree, Jim.

My thought is that it probably has something to do with a previous conversation we have had on here re: scholarship.

It is not considered chic in the scholarly community to hold to a literal creation. The lure of being considered a scholar (or continuing to be considered a scholar) may lead one to adapt a view that fits within the "mainstream" of scholarship - even if this is done unintentionally.

I don't know Dr. Sproul enough to know if this was true of him, but I imagine it is true of a number of the folks in evangelicalism who also want to float in the circles of "scholarship."

Just my thoughts,

Frank
