Doran and Bauder on Principles regarding Separation

Wednesday, November 30, 2005

I interrupt (briefly) my current series on "The Best and the Brightest" 1, 2, 3, & 4 (so far) to encourage you to take the time to read Evan Collier's 15 page summary of some comments made by Dr. Dave Doran (President of Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary) and Dr. Kevin Bauder (President of Central Baptist Theological Seminary) regarding the God-Focused Youth Conference. Many of the comments deal with the principles involved rather than just the specific people in that case.

I know this is OLD - as in March 2005, but I did not discover it until tonight (I was looking for something else that Dr. Bauder had written/said).

Hat Tip - Greg Linscott at Sharper Iron.

P.S. Michael C. (from Jacksonville?), if you are reading this, I think you will find these comments an example of Fundamentalists seeking to answer the questions that we are often accused on not being willing to answer.

P.P.S. If anyone knows how I can get access to the rest of the discussion, I would love to know. (I can't get anything from Bails' site but some type of error message.)

I was disappointed by the document, Frank. It was hard to follow what it was. Was it a compilation of blog posts? It didn't quite flow very well. I like the principles but was hoping to hear concrete reasons for not speaking at the conference.

Andy,

Yes. It was a complilation of blog posts. I do not have access to the full original discussion (that is why I asked if anyone could help me with where to find it).

I guess I should have made some comments about its make up - I'll try to fix that.

Having said that, I still found it useful in reading the way these men interacted in this discussion (especially in light of the fact that I have often heard that Fundamentalists won't answer these types of questions).

I do wish I could find the entire discussion (both sides) so that it will flow better.

I also wish the document did not end with the post that it ended with.

The document is a summary of posts mostly from Bauder and Doran on a blog by Adam Bailie. Here is the link to the blog: http://www.adambailie.com/

I am not quite sure where to find the archive. The thread had a lot more back and forth, but Bauder and Doran got involved in it and Evan C. basically snipped out the parts that were less pertinent to the discussion.

I think the thread occurred just before SI was launched, if I remember correctly. It was within a week or two of that event. The discussion of SI of Phil Johnson's attacks followed swiftly from that point.
